Mark Whitaker: The relationship with China entered into the modern times with its entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Obama's idea was, okay, let's have the Trans-Pacific Partnership,. free trade deal, Pacific Rim nations, China can't enter until they play by the rules. So you get a carrot approach. Trump blew it up pretty quickly through some executive orders and then proceeded to go down the trade war path. He says if there's one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on, they don't like China.
