Is There a Golden Age of Atheism?

Many millions of people around the world do believe in God or gods. Do you be gorgeous in that? Well yes and no, which is a very good philosophical answer isn't it? I mean I completely understand why it is that people might find comfort or solace or something to hang onto at times of fear and distress. On the whole religion has been an oppressive burden in human history even though it has also helped people on their own frightened at night to feel a little safer. You know these were death rows that caused those awful wars in the 16th and 17th century because they were losing their power and struggling to keep it.
