Shawn: In a way, i actually see this as similar to the way the witch king is defeated. He says saron had to be thrown down by gilgaled and elendil before sildur could then take the ring off the vulnerable finger. Shawn: So ya taking the ring is what removed so much of saron's power, and he was defeated as a result.
