Is It Easier to Defend Your Own Opinion?

Sometimes it's easier to take the other persons viewpoint and try to defend what they think. It's either going to help you improve your own opinion, or it may make you question it. The phrase that they mention here, which i really liked, when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras. I think that illustrates to me my own propensity towards this.
