The New Camel in the Sahara
The introduction of camels transformed the economy of the sahara. They could carry enormous weights of up to 150 kilograms, and this meant that large scale trade was now possible across the desert. The camel had arrived in west africa. And the result was the beginning of a new era for both peoples.
