i'just reading something, actually, for a class that that i'm teaching about the sort of social psychology of exceptionalism. There are reasons to think that being at the top might make you more sensitive to status loss. So that may make you more prone to over reacting to things that seem to be a threats to your toyor status. And there's a plausible reading of the ro war that is a kind of a reaction to a perception of a threatened or lost status.
