My Alleged Accident
Poetry Off the Shelf
Is She the One Who Saved You?
Roxanne Jones' poem, "Janine," is about a woman with multiple personalities. She says she has to be on good terms with all of them because they hold her memories and timelines. The poems were written in the aftermath of an accident that left her unable to remember who knew what before it happened. In 2014, after becoming a U.S. citizen,Jones finally openly talked about growing up undocumented. It was important for her to do this so people wouldn't feel like they had to report her or turn her in.
