Mary Shelley's the Last Man
The Last Man is one of the first ever books about what would happen if there was an apocalypse. Mary Shelley started writing it just after she found out about Byron's death. In doing so, she was really shifting the science fiction genre. She has this theme in so much of her work that if we treat people who are different from us badly, then it's going to come back to bite us.
