Any amount, any dose of exercise is going to be pushing you more towards insulin sensitivity. If you can fit in a minimum of 30 minutes five times a week, that's absolutely wonderful. Whatever aerobic activity you can do, great. Is running better than swimming? Better than cycling? It's so hard to tell. My hunch would be that anything that better exercises the larger muscles, either your legs, your thighs, your buttocks, is going to have a more demonstrable effect than your upper body purely because of muscle size. You're probably going to get more bang for your buck."
