The Myth of Belshazzar
For many of the relevant sources, there is no record of such amedian king taking over babylon. Belshazzar was long declared to be a figment of later historical imagination,. before evidence surfaced vindicating the biblical account in its assertion of his historis There are many ways in which the discovery of new evidence could change the picture that we have of this period. Many of the reconstructions are fairly tentative on certain points. We need to bear in mind the fact that dominant interpretations of the existing evidence can themselves be very contestable.
