Joan Rivers says that the noir hero really is actually is this figure of desire yeah so how can how could he see it okay that's why you can't see it right. She also talks about Hitchcock's locked room paradox where nothing can get in and yet something gets  something happens that couldn't otherwise occur within the confines of that space. The public realm allows us to wear a disguise but if you're just in sconce and privacy you can never hide which is an interesting contradiction, she says.
