In the Renaissance there was an explosion of translations and scholarly work on the Georgics. John Dryden's translation put in a certain element of what you might term Virgilian sort of politics as well. Jethro Tull denounces Virgil as being completely and utterly wrong, this is a terrible idea. We still have a tendency in part thanks to Virgil that sees farmers as somehow being one man on his plow in a field. And I think that if we want to think more seriously about climate change and food security then we have to become much more aware of what's actually happening in the agricultural industries.
