Why Does the Law Have Any Authority?
The authority of law is a reflection of how this stems from a view of the purpose of government. And even that, more deeply, i think, ultimately is going to be grounded in certain moral values. But again, we've got to keep in mind, what are we talking about when we're talking about legal power? The power to make people do things, whether or not they want to. I think that's a legitimate power for very limited purposes - but it doesn't answer all questions.
