Money market funds are a new category of dollar equivalent assets. Some will be treated as cash equivalent, and some will but it remains to be seen. And they're making their way into capital markets in the form of collateral. The same thing is true on the accounting side. They're not considered a cash equivalent because they're not issued by a bank.
