Vincent Perugia and the Louvre Cops
Vincenzo Perugia was arrested by French cops for allegedly stealing the Mona Lisa from a boarding house. He told them he had been working at another place that day and they let him go. The poet Guillaume Aponair is accused of being behind the theft but it turns out his secretary snitched on him to a newspaper.
