Is There an Inflammatory Myopathy?
Georgios Manusakis: Inflammatory myopathy is typically suspected when there is a proximal muscle weakness that progresses over a period usually of weeks to months. The diagnostic approach is what we conventionally do for any suspected muscle disease, he says. If the person has subacute progressive muscle weakness, elevated muscle enzymes, myopathic EMG, characteristic rash or nail changes or ILD and the positive antibody fits with the phenotype, it's his opinion that the investigation could stop there.
