The Ecology of Ibn Tufel

Ibn Tufel tells of a man who wants to be perfect at all three levels. At the animal level, he decides to become a vegetarian in order to avoid thwarting God's will. He also imitates the heavenly spheres which carry out God's providential order by caring for animals and plants. After days without food or even motion in the cave, Hai achieves an experience of complete unity with God.
