The New Grocery Store
The koop store was a new way of buying food in New York City. It allowed people to peruse the shelves and pick out what they wanted, rather than just giving their list to workers behind the counter. But it didn't attract as many customers as other grocery stores did because residents could save money by going elsewhere. The city also tried to encourage community life with study groups or mother's clubs for women who couldn't work full-time at factories.
