Introduction
Since October, India has translocated 8 African Cheetah from Namibia and 12 from South Africa as part of a long-term conservation plan. The aim is to build a self-sustaining population centered at Madhya Pradesh Shaskuno National Park that will also contribute to the global survival of the species. Dr Rajesh Gopal, a former forest officer and closely involved with Project Tiger and now head of the global Tiger Forum discussed the pros and cons of the translocation exercise.
