The Effect of Bots on Social Media Influence

Bots were able to infiltrate the highest levels of social media influence during the US election. Another way that bots can be used is to take up a particular conversation topic or to support a particular person, candidate or idea in order to create something that I call manufactured consensus. So what we think is that manufactured consensus is creating the illusion of popularity for people who might previously not have had support politically.
