The Engaged Patient Movement

Patients want to be treated as equal, im not equal in knowledge, but equal in status within the health system. Too many patients that i speak to have had the experience of being talked down to or hold what their care will be. I a lot of my work is about trying to empower health providers to deal with this engaged patient dynamic. We're seeing the democratization of health information through the internet and organizations like mayo and harvard. The more educated end of the engaged patient spectrum are reading clinical research trials for themselves and trying to take them to g p's to discuss.
