Small talk is not universal. It is not popular everywhere. In finland, for example, small talk is seen as a total waste of time. There is apparently a national saying which says, silence is gold, talking is silver. I mean, i'm trying to imagine what social life looks like in the absence of these pleasantries. Feel's awkward.
