Kafka hated technology, didn't know how to use it and especially had concerns that it was going to interfere with his ability to communicate. He wrote a letter to his fiance where he said they need to combine the telephone with other technology to make it better. The hard part for Kafka was trying to decipher the meaning of a caller when he couldn't see that person speaking.
