Dennis is basically like any number of lazy employees who the boss doesn't really know how lazy they are. He knows that no one's paying attention, so he gets away with a lot. As much as he's awful, he's also right about a lot of things. And his cynicism is pretty useful to the narrative because Dunk is naive and chivalrous and wants to be a good man. Eustace is pretty naive too, and tries to be chivalrous. But none of them are really cynical.
