Texas now criminalizes abortion from the moment of fertilization, except when pregnancy jeopardizes patient's life or risks substantial impairment of a major bodily function. Doctors who perform abortions and violation of the law can be punished with life in prison and a fine of at least $100,000. Many states neighboring Texas have completely banned or severely restricted access to abortion. In New Mexico, where the boy still have another clinic, abortion remains accessible.
