How to Treat Hyperthermia in Patients With Sepsis
Scott Wongar: These guys are going to be profoundly hyperthermic. The endocrinologists say do not aggressively cool these patients with external cooling because they could get further vasoconstriction and that's really bad in these patients. So just let the cooling happen by treating the sympathetic surge. No one has mentioned whether it's bad or good to give some benzodiazepines. Last but definitely not least, you need to fix the precipitating event which in a lot of these cases means you need to treat the infection aggressively.
