In the south, there was a strain of curriculum that did emphasize divisions amongst both students and staff. Basically, they wanted white people to feel about who they are,. for them and the students of color to view these barriers between them as insurmountable. There are der texts that have come out since then, like white fragility, that have become dominant a modes of thinking among huge swaths of the left. And if my kid were going to that school, i would respectfully try to get them to either balance it with counter theories or not teach it at all.

Yascha Mounk is a professor at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies, a contributing writer at The Atlantic, and the founder of Persuasion. His new book, The Great Experiment: Why Diverse Democracies Fall Apart and How They Can Endure, was published this week.
