Tristan de Montfillon was Napoleon's chief military advisor on the coup attempt. He had never served in a single battlefield, and refused to do so when ordered. The book The Shadow Emperor describes him as "a charlatan, coward, thief and murderer" Despite all, he somehow hoodwinked Napoleon and accompanied him to Saint Helena where he became his final confidant.
