If you're a very advanced physique athlete, and your main opportunity to be better next year than you were this year is by coming in leaner at your next show, i think it does make sense to very strategically navigate the post show period. You don't need to set yourself up for this huge off season where you're going to bulk like crazy and gain 20 pounds. There's some flexibility there. If you are transitioning from a weight loss phase to long term maintenance and ou want to have more of that dietary flexibility, you want to see if you can get away with having slight, slightly higher calories without significant weight gain.
