i don't think any of us here would disagree with the claim that cults are effective at giving people these tools to bond with other humans. I think what our judgment is about whether it's fake or not, has more to do with whether or not we think that the goals of that bonding are manipulated. So i think that there's a way to look at this and say, well, all this is doing is just normal intimacy. And it would be much healthier for him to have this intimacy without all the bulshet. But clearly that's not in the cards for him. He has no opportunity to do that in a way that wouldn'tin of these kind of cult like aspects
