The Problems With Decoding and Completion
The writers of the program make far too many assumptions about the child's background knowledge of words and language. They tend to think if a child reads the words therefore they have all the comprehension of the sentence or the paragraph. decoding and comprehension are not separate entities that we can teach in isolation. We have to recognize that and it's particularly important because comprehension is so challenging.
