The Influence of the Dubasque Sisters on Louis XVI
The primary Dubasque sisters Gabrielle and Louise were in a unique position given their successful marriages. Aristocratic men were, to a certain extent, sort of checked out from the day to day decision making of the household. They preferred spending their days breeding and training hunting dogs and horses, falcons. The Napoleonic Code allowed for women to inherit property regardless of gender.
