What's Underlying a Fundamental Conflict?
A lot of people find themselves circling back around to the same problems. When there aren't those kind of fundamental conflicts, it's stell hard enough to change a habit any time. But when making a change in a habit means some thing about the person you are becoming is hat conflict at a deeper level with something you believe you were supposed to be or not supposed to be, then it gets really difficult. And so for me, working with people, there is this conflict between being client centered, person centered, and trying to work toward a goal that while some part of them may agree with it, a large part of them doesn't agree with it,.

Chris is an associate professor, licensed clinical psychologist, and certified rehabilitation counselor. His scholarship focuses on motivational interviewing (MI) and interpersonal processes in mental health/substance abuse treatment. He has focused on expanding MI theory and practice to a broader focus than originally conceived as well as developing MI group psychotherapy. He is the lead author on the MI in Groups book that is part of the official Guilford Press series on MI. His practice and training has included outpatient, inpatient and residential treatment of individuals and groups with a variety of health, mental health and addiction problems.
