There are over 300 species of scallop but only one is argo pectin aradians the bay scallop. Bay scallops start out their life in the water column as free swimming pelagic larvae. Sea scallops tend to live much longer but probably not as long as ming who was a clam found in 2006 off the coast of iceland that scientists estimated was over 400 years old this clam until they did more analysis and they discovered it was actually 507.
