David's Response to the Gibeonites

Matthew Henry: God's judgments often look a great way back, which obliges us to do so when we are under his rebukes. He says it is not for us to object against the people smarting for the sin of their king. Perhaps they were aiding and abetting; you are against this generation's suffering for the sins of the last. Time does not wear out the guilt of sin,. nor can we build hopes of impunity upon the delay of judgments. There is no statute of limitation to be pleaded against God's demands.
