The Asian Giant Hornet and Honey Bees

The asian giant hornet is known to attack honey bee hives. The nest starts in the spring with a mated queen that had wintered on her own. All her offspring are sterile females who will never mate, but help build the nest. Successive generations of workers are produced until late summer when the nest has become large enough to produce sexually maturing females and males. For that, the nest needs a lot of animal protein. So along with the general insect prey, the asian giant Hornet will also prey on honey bee colonies.
