Physiologic Regulators of Net Acidic Excretion

The daily acid load also cannot be excreted unless virtually all of the filtered bicarbonate has been reabsorbed. The extracellular pH is the primary physiologic regulator of net acidic excretion. Secreted hydrogen ions are excreted by binding either to filtered buffers such as HPO4-2 negative and creatinine or to ammonia to form ammonia. Ammonium is generated from the metabolism of glutamine in the proximal tubule. And so I thought these six bullet points were just like, man, that just crystallizes all the major learning points that you need to know about renal hydrogen handling.
