The Multiple Expansion of the Market
The market was pricing in three to four cuts by the end of the year, now we're only at absolutely sure about one cut and a 60% chance of a second cut. So there's something going on with the multiples here that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The CME FedWatch tool right now is pricing nearly a 30% probability of a 25 basis point hike in June. If we get through this debt ceiling thing and kick the can down the road until August, September, there's a chance that we have a couple months of this same sort of activity where we just kind of move along in a range.
