The Perfectibility Thing
The central theme that the essay is arguing against is what was called the perfectibility thesis, the idea that progress could be tracked out towards some ideal endpoint. Condor say is one of the people that mouth is attacking, but also radicals in Britain. Godwin is the other person who's central in this essay. They're associated with this idea of perfectibility and progress. And the core idea of the essay is that this is wishful thinking because it runs up against what the mouth is essentially laws of nature.
