The First Combat of the Marines on the Elu Creek
Enterprise's flight 300 was diverted to Guadalcanal because the Enterprise was damaged. John L Smith lifted off a cactus with three other Wildcats and tangled with a flight of six eros on August 20, 1944. This is the following morning in the fight. It literally occurred 24 hours or less really after they landed they land on August 21st.
