First Past the Post

First past the post is very damaging to the Union partly because it exaggerates the political difference between parts of the United Kingdom. If in 2019 the same votes have been cast in Scotland on a proportional system you would currently have I think 26 MPs from the SMP, 15 MPs from the Conservative Party, 12 Labour MPs and five Liberal Democrats. You would then have political parties at Westminster that in order to govern required support from outside England and that had serious representation across the rest of the UK. So I don't think first past the post will go but I do think the first past thePost is becoming a real problem for the integrity of the Union. But whenever this government has had to make
