The Hyena Hunt
A massive hunt was organized for an animal believed to be a hyena, based on descriptions provided by those that had glimpsed the dreadful beast. The legend was memorialized in a poem by doctor thomas newcombe stone in his 18 69 book cape cod rhymes. Stone was a wealthy physician who enjoyed writing what he called rhymes rather than poetry. A portion of his rhyme called the hyena hunt goes as follows: In well fleet, when the sun was low, all bloodless lay the untrodden snow. But well fleet saw another sight.
