Surrogacy in the United States
India once had a booming surrogacy industry, but at the end of last year the government there banned commercial surrogacy altogether. This has pushed the international surrogacy market to other middle and low-income countries. The United States is another popular but much more expensive destination for commercial surrogacy. Intended parents will usually pay upwards of $100,000 for the whole process which includes legal, agency and medical fees. Many people still choose to go abroad for surrogacy despite the ethical and legal minefield and the expense.
