The Role of Ethics in Psychoanalysis
A lot of ethical thinking and psychoanalysis has been about behavior, what I would call behavioral ethics. And the idea is almost like as long as everybody's behaving, then ethics is not horribly relevant. So there really ethics is not an incidental issue that may be relevant at some times and not others. But if we think about ethics as what motivates us - how we're motivated by the dignity and well-being of ourselves as well as others - then suddenly ethics has much broader relevance to the center of psychoanalysis.
