The Importance of Playing a Jewish Role
I think the main ethos of acting that I've always lived by is there was a playwright in the Roman era called Terrence, a North African playwright who said that nothing human is alien to me. The place where we want to get to is a place where any actor can play anything. And if you look at gay actors, I understand what Russell T. Davis said. But for my mind, the way if you define a young actor, you do them a great disservice. You pigeonhole and you affect their ability to earn a living and have a career. When I work with Jewish actors it's always an ensemble - usually I'm the only non-Jewish actor there.
