People not seeking truth, but they're also not seeking necessarily goodness so much as social status. If there is an opportunity for me to justify my outranking somebody else, we saw this with totalitarian nations. It gives them a sense of accomplishment and like I'm doing the right thing. And that kind of mindset is far more common than the enlightenment idea of the rational individual.
