The Harps and the Revolutionary War
Micah and Wiley Harps were considered traitors to the Revolutionary cause. In 1797, they are believed to have murdered a man named Johnson for no other reason when they happened across him while out hunting one day. The brothers then repeated the act of disenboweling and urinating on the body of their victim, then made off with a dead man's horse and some of his goods. After being apprehended by a local militia force before being imprisoned at the Kentucky State Prison in Danville, the pair escaped into the surrounding wilderness. Following such a horrific atrocity, Kentucky Governor James Garrett announced a $300 bounty on the Harps on April 22nd of 1799. However, it
