The Wendigo Story
The author grew up on the Isabella Indigenous Reservation in Central Michigan, tribal land of the Saginaw Chippewa nation. The only ritualistic consumption of human remains occurred with certain southwestern tribes who used to drink the ashes of their dead. There's no danger of getting sick from drinking a little ash, but that doesn't mean there were zero incidents of eating human flesh by Native Americans and evidently the Wendigo myth is partially a cautionary tale against doing so.
