Shumwai: When I came to America in 1972, there were no Iranians anywhere near us. We ran into an Iranian one time in a mall because like, where do you see Iranians at the mall? It's like animals are in the zoo. She says she pick and choose the parts of her Iranian culture that work to her benefit. Shumwai is married with two young children; they live in California but will soon return to Iran.
