Tillig's Theology
Tillig was the first non-Jewish professor dismissed from a German university after Hitler came to power. He fled with his family to the United States and joined the faculty at New York City's Union Theological Seminary where he taught for over two decades. Tillig rejects fundamentalism as it fails to make contact with the present situation. In 1952, he published The Courage to Be, in which he presents his antidote to humanity's loss of meaning through the concept of courage.
